Fire damages roof of Smithfield Farms food plant at Milan

Fire last night damaged a portion of the roof on the large Smithfield Farmland Foods plant just north of Milan.

Responding to the call were fire departments from Milan Rural, the city of Milan, and Green City. Gardner estimated the manpower total at about 25 persons.

 
That’s Rick Gardner of Milan who said he’s been the chief of the Milan rural fire department for more than 20 years.
