February is 7th driest month since 1970 with just four-tenths of an inch of moisture

The February weather summary in Trenton shows temperatures were near average while precipitation was considerably below normal. 

There were just four-tenths of an inch of rain and melted precipitation for the month of February in Trenton which is only 28 percent of normal. Normal for the month is 1.45 inches. The four-tenths of an inch of moisture made last month the seventh driest February in Trenton since 1970, however, moisture for the year remained above average by 79-hundredths of an inch through February 29th due to the fact that Trenton had its wettest January in 47 years.

Just one inch of snow was measured in February at the water plant in Trenton, where official readings and measurements are taken. KTTN measured two inches of snow during February in downtown Trenton. The official one inch of February snowfall was nearly five inches below normal.  Since October of 2019, Trenton has had 20 and one-half inches of snow and sleet which is about three inches above normal for that period, largely because of the 13.3 inches of snow in Trenton during January.

Temperatures during February in Trenton averaged nearly 41 degrees for highs and slightly over 23 degrees for lows, with both being near normal. The warmest temperature during February was 61 degrees on February 23rd and the coldest was eight degrees below zero on February 14th, which was a record for that date in Trenton. A reading of three degrees below zero was recorded on February 13th. Those two dates are the only times this winter in which temperatures have fallen below zero in Trenton.

The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center is forecasting above-normal temperatures during March for northern Missouri. There’s a toss-up on precipitation, meaning there are equal chances for above, below, and near-normal precipitation.

Average highs during March in Trenton warm-up from 45 at the beginning of the month to 60 on March 31st. Average lows range from 26 at the start of March to 38 on the final day of the month. The average precipitation during March in Trenton is 2.55 inches.
