Grundy County Ambulance will hold an emergency medical technician training program starting this fall.

Classes will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The program will span about eight months, with six months dedicated to the classroom portion and two months for clinical rotations in the emergency room and on the trucks.

A course syllabus will be provided at the start of the class. The content may be subject to changes in date, time, topic, and location due to various factors.

The training program will use a blended or hybrid model, combining traditional face-to-face classroom learning with online components. Students are required to have a working email, internet access, and a tablet, laptop, or smart device throughout the program.

The program will employ a “flipped classroom” approach. Students will receive reading assignments and be exposed to the material before class, allowing class time to be used for interactive activities to deepen their understanding of the material.

Space is limited for the EMT training program starting this fall, and admission will involve an application process. Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the end of the program, have a high school diploma or equivalent by the end of the program, possess a valid driver’s license, and have no criminal record. Reliable internet and email access are also required. Additionally, applicants must complete an application, an interview with the admissions committee, pass a drug test, and obtain mandatory vaccinations before the program begins.

A minimum down payment of $400 is required by September 1. The total program tuition is $800, with the balance due by the end of the program. A course completion certificate, necessary for testing for certification and licensure, will be issued only after the full tuition is paid.

Tuition covers the cost of textbooks, related materials, and uniform shirts. Fees for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians testing and state licensure are the student’s responsibility.
