Progress is being made toward the construction of the new Mercer County Senior Citizens Center in downtown Princeton.

Following a fire last April that destroyed the Center, board members of the Mercer County Council on Aging have awarded a contract for construction and entered into an agreement for both fundraising and management of funds.

John Kramer of Jamesport was hired as the general contractor for the project with site preparations already underway. The Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri will serve as the Administrative entity in fund management with Marketing and Sales Director Steve Maxey to assist in leading the fund raising campaign.

Insurance reimbursement along with recent donations and memorial contributions will be used as seed money to start the construction project with individuals, organizations and businesses encouraged to contribute with an emphasis of donating by the end of the year to earn tax benefits.

The Mercer County Council on Aging and the Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri are both 501 c3 entities and will recognize donations with documentation for 2016 contributions.

Gene Anderson, Chairman of the Council on Aging says that the board hopes to see major progress by early spring, weather permitting and once the shell of the building is complete, subcontractors will begin interior projects.

Contributions may be earmarked for needed equipment to replace the losses or simply designated for construction.

Donations should be mailed to the Mercer County Council on Aging at 110 North Broadway in Princeton and made payable to the Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri with the intent noted on the memo line.
