The Newtown-Harris R-3 Board of Education has a new member. Doctor Nancy Halferty was appointed to finish the term of Sharmyn Garcia which concludes in April of 2019.
The board approved enclosing the breezeway from the gym to the preschool building. The bid of $3,800 from Etter Construction of Jamesport was accepted. The board also approved raising the district’s credit card to a $10,000 limit to better accommodate student activity account expenses.
Superintendent Doctor Kim Johnson presented the rough draft of the district audit. A finalized report will be presented for board approval in December.
Johnson reported parent/teacher conference attendance was 93% for prekindergarten through sixth grade, which was up from 77% last year. High school conference attendance was 90%, which was up from 54% last year. Johnson said more than 70 students are participating in the district-wide Buddy Pack Program.
The district-wide Food Pantry is utilized almost daily and is open to all seventh through 12th-grade students.
