One driver was injured Monday night when a sports utility vehicle and a large truck collided three miles east of Chillicothe.

The highway patrol reports 35-year-old Christopher Brannam of Dawn was taken to Hedrick Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The driver of a Freightliner, 64-year-old William Schreiner of Chillicothe, was not reported hurt in the 7:40 Monday evening crash.

Brannam’s sports utility vehicle was eastbound on Highway 36 while the large truck was southbound, crossing 36 from LIV Road 259 when Brannam drove off the south side of the highway in an attempt to avoid the truck. The Freightliner truck hit the left rear of the SUV causing the SUV to travel off road 259 and down an embankment, striking a ditch with its undercarriage. The truck came to a controlled stop on Road 259 with minor damage.

The highway patrol noted Christopher Brannam was not using a safety device while the operator of the Freightliner was.
