The Maysville school district reports Instructor Rodney Thomas has been placed on administrative leave from his job as a junior high math teacher and a coach with the wrestling program.

The 39-year-old Thomas was arrested on multiple alleged sexual contact accusations and related charges in DeKalb County.

A statement from the Maysville school indicates Thomas has not been allowed on school property since the allegations became known and pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings in DeKalb county circuit court.

The Maysville R-1 School District is aware of recent criminal charges filed against a District staff member stemming from his alleged inappropriate contact with students.

The staff member has been placed on administrative leave and has not been permitted on District property since the District first received notice of the allegations. The District will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and to provide support for students throughout this process.

The District values the security and safety of all students and continues to encourage students and parents to report any incidents of inappropriate contact by an adult so it can take prompt and necessary action. The District has board policies in place that specifically prohibit inappropriate verbal and physical contact between its employees and students. The District will continue to rigorously enforce its policies to protect its students.

A condition contained with the $150,000 cash bond says Thomas is to have no contact with any Maysville students.

Online court information reports at the request of his attorney, an arraignment for Rodney Thomas is scheduled March 29 at 9 am before Associate Circuit Court Judge Bartley Spear in the courthouse at Maysville.
