Contest winners announced during Missouri Day Festival opening ceremonies

Numerous contest winners were announced during opening ceremonies Thursday night for the 33rd annual Missouri Day Festival in Trenton.

In the decorated wreath category, among families and individuals, 1st place was won by Rita and Lita Terry of Gilman City; 2nd to McKenzy Dolan of Trenton; and 3rd place to Barbara Hawkins of Trenton. Among decorated wreath entries made by businesses and organizations, 1st place went to Sunnyview Therapy department, 2nd place to Preceptor Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and 3rd to the DAWGS – Disabled Athletes with Grundy Support.

For window decorating using education as a theme, 1st place was won by Grundy County for a display inside the foyer of the courthouse; 2nd went to the THS Class of 1977 for their display at “the Space” which is located at 10-13 Main Street.

In yard decorating, among businesses – 1st place went to From the Farm, Doctor Dale Alumbaugh and Teresa Fellhaur for their display near the 9th Street bridge. 2nd place was won by Immanuel Lutheran Church at 17-11 Hillcrest in Trenton.

Among residential yards, 1st place went to Linda and Tom Eads for their home on the loop of upper Lake Trenton; 2nd place went to Janice and Larry Huffstutter at 36-97 Serendipity Lane at Trenton.

Recognition also was given to 1st through 3rd place winners in a Missouri Day coloring contest. The entries also focused on the theme: “A Salute to Education.”

Beginning with the pre-school, 1st went to Briley Luper of Trenton R-9; among kindergarten: 1st place to Lily May of Rissler school; for the first grade, the top honor was won by Paige Little of Pleasant View R-6; for second grade, top honors went to Valarie Keo of Rissler; in third grade, the top winner was Bradley Miller of Rissler; among fourth grade entries, 1st place was won by Allie Woodworth.

Coloring contest entries also came from the Sunnyview Nursing Home with 1st place won by Richard Ruegsegger.
