The Grundy County Community Emergency Response Team is seeking volunteers.

CERT Coordinator Alan Barnett explains anyone from Grundy County may serve as a volunteer regardless of someone’s physical condition. He notes volunteers are trained to be able to help the community and improve their skills.

The training includes disaster preparedness, fire, and basic medical training. Barnett says gear will be provided and would include basic first aid equipment as well as a flashlight and safety gear.

Grundy County CERT meets in the lower level of the fire station in Trenton the third Saturday of most months at 9 o’clock in the morning.

Barnett says a new member drive will be held during the next CERT meeting November 17th. He adds that Federal Emergency Management Agency training guidelines require CERT members to attend three eight-hour days for training.

Grundy County residents interested in joining the Community Emergency Response Team should contact Coordinator Alan Barnett at 660-359-7931.
