The Chillicothe School District is canceling all classes beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020, for a minimum of three weeks out of concerns for the Coronavirus.

The Chillicothe School District website includes a letter for parents, patrons, students, and staff. It noted the decision by Chillicothe administrators to cancel classes was made with guidance from the Livingston County Health Department. The school district also reports the cancellation or postponement of all extracurricular events, practices, and uses of Chillicothe R-2 property for social gatherings during this time.

Students are to remain engaged academically during this extended absence from school. Chillicothe staff is working to provide learning opportunities for students. For the sixth through 12th grade, instruction will be provided via Google Classroom.

For kindergarten through 5th grade, the instruction is through See Saw. While not all families have access to Internet service in their homes, the school staff will develop plans for those students to receive information via home delivery or U-S mail.

The letter notes Chillicothe officials are grateful to those who volunteered to provide meals for students during this extended absence. Details on meal deliveries are to be provided on the Chillicothe school web page, email, or local media.

The letter from Superintendent Dan Wiebers concludes with a quote he’s heard and feels it’s appropriate at this time. “in the end it’s impossible to know if school officials are overreacting or did too much, but it’ll be quite apparent if they UNDER act or do too little.”
