Chillicothe Police Chief Jon Maples reports the police department has made a few procedural changes in response to COVID-19.

Maples says citizens should call 911 for emergencies for any situation where a crime is in process or a life is in danger. Low-level crime calls or non-emergencies where a suspect is no longer present, or the crime has already happened will be handled by an officer over the phone following a call to 911. Also for low-level crimes, citizens will be asked to complete reports over the phone with an officer where a report number will be provided.

The Chillicothe Police Department will respond as necessary in cases that require on-scene investigation. Officers will wear rubber gloves during contact, may have a face mask, and will attempt to keep a three to six-foot distance.

The public is asked to contact the police department before coming into the building, if possible. The department will respond to any call 24/7 if a victim asks to physically talk to an officer.

The Chillicothe Police Department’s non-emergency number is 660-646-2121. Maples asks callers to tell personnel if they or their families have self-quarantined.
