Chillicothe Police report one motorist was taken into custody Monday night more than an hour after allegedly taking off at a high rate of speed following a traffic stop.

Just before 8 o’clock, a resident in the 400 block of Cherry Street contacted police to report a vehicle had been driven into the side of a small outbuilding in a back yard and was abandoned.  Police said the driver, who fled the scene, was identified by local business security cameras, located just before 9 o’clock in the 400 block of Monroe Street, where he allegedly attempted to avoid arrest again.

The 21-year-old male was taken into custody on accusations that included driving while revoked, resisting arrest, failing to register a motor vehicle, no insurance, and property damage. The suspect also was wanted on a Linn County warrant for failing to appear in court on a trespassing charge.

Chillicothe Police said the individual was transferred last night to the Daviess DeKalb Regional Jail pending formal charges in Livingston County.
