The Chillicothe Fire Department responded to a fire in the roof of the Donaldson Company Saturday morning at 1:11 am.

Assistant Fire Chief Eric Reeter reports an employee directed firefighters to the center of the building at 400 Donaldson Drive upon their arrival. He says the fire fighters found a small fire burning next to a part of a cleaning machine located where the pipe goes through the roof.

Crews accessed the roof and discovered there was fire in the insulation and roof covering about one foot in circumference around the pipe. Crews peeled back the roof covering and insulation before using a dry chemical fire extinguisher and a water extinguisher to put out the fire. The damage from the fire was contained to the roof area around the pipe.

Reeter adds that company employees told the fire fighters that the pipe gets very hot when in operation, and it apparently ignited some buildup of debris from normal operation.

Crews were on the scene about an hour.
