The Chillicothe Fire Department fought a grass and brush fire affecting multiple properties for several hours Thursday.

Assistant Fire Chief Eric Reeter reports the fire department found about 40 acres of field and timber on fire at 9001 LIV 516 just before 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon. He says firefighters used 100 gallons of water and leaf blowers to extinguish the fire.

Reeter notes the owner, Jack Dickerson, said his neighbor to the west had burned a brush pile Wednesday and apparently some embers had blown onto his property. Crews left the scene after about an hour and 20 minutes.

They were dispatched to other properties affected by the fire around 4 o’clock. Reeter reports firefighters found several acres of field and timber on fire at 6154 LIV 531 and 8400 LIV 514.  He says they used leaf blowers and rakes to extinguish the fire.

He notes the owners of the properties, Colin Woodworth and Greg Kille, said they believed some embers had blown onto their property from their neighbor burning a brush pile Wednesday.

Reeter adds that three firefighters were treated on the scene for dehydration and heat exhaustion.

The Chillicothe Fire Department left the scene around 8:40 Thursday night.
