The Chillicothe Fire Department responded to a tractor fire about one-half of a mile east of the railroad tracks on LIV 232 Wednesday night.

Captain Les Hinnen reports that upon arrival to the land owned by Jeremy Minnis, firefighters found an Allis-Chalmers tractor with a small amount of fire under the cab area. Hinnen says firefighters used a dry chemical extinguisher on the flames and a hose line to cool the area. The tractor received moderate damage.

Tractor owner Jacob Ballard told firefighters he smelled smoke while operating the tractor, then saw smoke coming from under the cab and called 911.

Hinnen notes Ballard was not sure what caused the fire, but the cause appeared to be electrical in nature.
