The Chillicothe Fire Department responded to a large timber fire at Camp Kiliroco at LIV 231 last night.

Fire Chief Darrell Wright reports Chillicothe Fire arrived with a rural truck, brush truck, and mule with three personnel.

Wright says someone directed the firefighters to the fire when they arrived at the scene noting they discovered the fire was too big to get a vehicle to it.

Wright reports the Chillicothe Fire requested mutual aid from Lock Springs and paged it’s paid by call firefighters for help.

Firefighters made a perimeter around the fire using hand rakes, backpack water tanks, and blowers. Crews were able to control the fire after it burned about 250 to 300 acres of timber at the camp.

Firefighters were on the scene for about five and a half hours, however, some firemen were there throughout the night putting out hot spots.

Wright reports the cause of the fire is unknown, and there was no damage to any structures.
