The Chillicothe Fire Department Tuesday night responded to a fire on LIV Road 237 that a spokesman says left a garage with extensive fire damage and a nearby residence with smoke damage.

Firefighters were called after 7 o’clock in the evening to 9588 LIV Road 237, which is property owned by Ted Blankenship of Chillicothe.

The fire scene included a metal garage with four bays and apartment. Upon arrival, a spokesman said the fire was coming from one of the middle doors as well as other doors.  A portable tank was set up and firefighters used two hand lines to control the fire. The Chula Fire Department was requested to respond with a tanker.

The Chillicothe spokesman noted firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the living quarters. The owner of the property described the garage as his workshop and storage area while the living quarters were unoccupied most of the time. The fire department quoted the owner, Blankenship, as saying he was at the shop Tuesday and used the lawn tractor, parked it inside the garage, and left approximately ten to fifteen minutes prior to being called about the fire.

The spokesman for the Chillicothe Fire Department noted the fire appears to have started around the lawn tractor but could not say for certain that was the cause of the fire.  Firefighters were on the scene Tuesday night for two hours.
