A fire early Monday consumed the contents and metal structure of the Jamesport Country Store. Chief Davie Davis of Jamesport Fire and Rescue reported that the business burned to the ground. He noted that the structure was halfway engulfed by the time the first fire crew arrived at the scene on Route NN, off Highway 6. The business was closed when the fire was reported to 911 at about 1 a.m.

Davis reported that calls for mutual aid went out to Gallatin, Coffey, and the Grundy County Rural Fire Departments.

Chief Davis said the cause and origin of the fire are undetermined due to the extensive damage. He indicated that there is no investigation underway. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was represented at the scene.

Davis described store officials as eager to begin cleanup once the embers cooled. He stated that they plan to rebuild. The new store location is expected to be behind the previous site to allow more room for shopper parking.

When questioned by KTTN, Davis said the property was self-insured through the Amish community.
