Cameron and Grain Valley residents were hurt when a car hit the rear of another car that was stopped and partially blocking the driving lane of northbound Interstate 35.

Forty-five-year-old Jamie Hammet of Cameron, and 71-year old Gary Hudgens of Grain Valley, both were taken to Liberty Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened early Saturday just north of Liberty as the vehicle operated by Ms. Hammet was stopped, partially blocking the driving lane of Northbound I-35 when the car driven by Hudgens hit the rear of the stopped vehicle, pushing it off the right side of the road and ejecting Ms. Hammet.

Both vehicles were demolished and both drivers were wearing safety devices.
