Boating collision on Lake of the Ozarks leaves one injured, suspect flees

A collision between two personal watercraft at Lake of the Ozarks resulted in a minor injury and one vessel fleeing the scene. The incident occurred on July 6, 2024, at 6:15 p.m. near the 20.5-mile mark of the Osage Arm.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2023 11-foot Sea-Doo PWC driven by Jackson A. Vrooman, 19, of Columbia, Missouri, was struck by a 2020 11-foot Kawasaki PWC. The driver of the Kawasaki, whose identity is unknown, fled the scene following the collision.

Jackson A. Vrooman suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention at the scene. He was wearing a safety device during the incident. Both watercraft were able to be driven from the scene, with the Sea-Doo sustaining moderate damage and the Kawasaki minor damage.

The patrol is investigating the incident and seeking information about the unknown driver involved in the collision.
