Bicyclist fatally struck on Highway 24 near Keytesville

A fatal accident occurred on July 5, 2024, at 9:52 p.m., two miles west of Keytesville on Highway 24, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Arthur W. Bristow, 31, of Orrick, Mo., was driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima westbound when his vehicle struck a bicyclist in the roadway. The bicyclist, Darrell D. Rice, 56, of Montrose, Colorado, was not wearing safety equipment and had no lights or reflectors on his bicycle at the time of the collision.

The impact of the collision resulted in the total loss of the Nissan Maxima, which was towed by Skins Auto Body in Salisbury. Rice sustained fatal injuries and was transported by Air Flight to Moberly Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by Dr. Lammert at 12:03 a.m. on July 6, 2024.

Rebecca G. Wright, 22, of Belton, Mo., an occupant in the Nissan Maxima, sustained minor injuries. She was transported by Chariton County Ambulance to Carroll County Memorial Hospital. Both Bristow and Wright were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The Chariton County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
