A major interstate shipping corridor will be closed on Friday between Kansas City and St. Joseph, and thousands of motorists will have to find another way.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge over Interstate 29 near the town of Dearborn. Both the north and southbound lanes will close on Friday night at 10 PM while crews work to demolish the old bridge. Traffic will be rerouted to smaller side roads during the demolition. They hope to have at least one lane open on each side by Saturday night, weather-permitting. Transportation officials say the bridge should be completed by May.
