April 4-H / FFA clinics planned in Sullivan County

Milan and Green City are locations next month for 4-H and F-F-A members and their parents to attend two separate clinics about showing livestock and small animals.  Both sessions are presented by University Extension of Sullivan County.

The show stock clinic in Milan is April 11th . It is open to exhibitors in any county.  It will cover beef, bucket calves, market goats, market lambs and market hogs. 4-H youth program assistant Penny Kittle said participants will learn about selection, handling, feeding, grooming, exhibiting and health care of their livestock. Presentations will be given on various species. Animals for demonstrations will be provided. Feed company representatives will offer nutritional advice and products. A veterinarian will talk about animal health concerns and treatments. This clinic is scheduled from 9 am to 1 pm April 11th at the North Missouri Livestock Auction in Milan.

Early registration is $15 and closes on Friday, April 1. Exhibitors can register up to the morning of the April 11th event for $20.

Green City will be the location for an April 30th clinic for the small animal show clinic for 4-H and FFA members to improve their skills. This clinic covers rabbits, poultry and dogs.  Participants are encouraged to bring their animals to this clinic.  Participants will learn about selection, handling, feeding, grooming, exhibiting and health care. An agility class demonstration for dog project members begins at 1:30.

The small animal clinic is 9 am to 12 noon in the Green City Park, rain or shine, on April 30th. Pre-register by April 22 for $15. It’s $20 if registering the morning of the event.

Both clinics are geared towards beginner and intermediate level exhibitors.
