60-year-old man from Kansas drowns at Stockton Lake

A 60-year-old man from Shawnee, Kansas, drowned in Stockton Lake on the evening of July 6, 2024, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Craig H. Olson was swimming near a 2008 Landau Pontoon boat in the first cove west of the Stockton Dam when the incident occurred. Olson, who was not wearing a life jacket, dove near the boat, resurfaced and then swam towards the boat. He went under again and did not resurface.

The drowning, which is the third reported in 2024 for Troop D, was reported at 6:03 p.m. Olson was pronounced dead at the scene by Cedar County Deputy Coroner Joe Trussel at 8:00 p.m.

Olson’s body was transported by the Cedar County Coroner to Brumback Funeral Home.
