6 members of Kansas family avoid disaster in crash near Cameron

The highway patrol described injuries as minor for six members of a Merriam, Kansas family who were injured just past midnight when a vehicle ran off the highway, one mile east of Cameron.

The highway patrol said a westbound van traveled off the north side of U.S. 36, went down an embankment, and came to a stop in a ditch.

The vehicle was demolished in the early morning accident.

The accident report says all six persons refused medical treatment at the scene.

The driver was listed as 52-year-old Ramakrishna Hegde. Passengers were listed were 42-year-old Chetana Hegde, 16-year-old Divya Hegde, 69-year-old Narayan Hegde, eight-year-old Navya Hegde, and 65-year-old Vasudha Hegde.

All but the youngest child was using a safety device according to the accident report.
