5 injured in 3-vehicle crash in Clay County on Route D

Teenagers from Lawson were among five persons injured when their vehicle was involved in a traffic accident about mid-afternoon in Clay County.  Three vehicles received damage in the accident which the patrol reported happened on Route D.

16-year-old Josie Greathouse of Lawson was driving westbound while 27-year-old Michael Neary of Lawson was eastbound. A sports utility vehicle operated by 17-year-old Hannah Hurst of Lawson had stopped.  Neary had swerved to avoid the stopped vehicle in front of him but struck the rear driver’s side, he then crossed the center line and collided with the oncoming vehicle driven by Miss Greathouse.

Receiving what the highway patrol called serious injuries were two of the passengers in the Greathouse vehicle15-year-old Laken Manns and 15-year-old Darion McAtee from Lawson. Both went to Liberty Hospital while a third passenger, 15-year-old Grace Shook of Lawson, received minor injuries and went to Mosiac Health Care.

Receiving moderate injuries were Michael Neary of Lawson and his passenger 24 year old Alexandria Barro of Excelsior Springs who were both taken to Liberty Hospital.

The investigating officer noted the two most seriously hurt girls were not using seatbelts while all other occupants had safety devices on.

Vehicle damages ranged from moderate to extensive in the Wednesday afternoon wreck in Clay County.
