48-year-old Monroe City man dies in ATV crash

A fatal ATV accident occurred on Cincinnati Road, half a mile south of Ariel Lane, nine miles southeast of Monroe City on July 3, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m.

William C. Sweet, a 48-year-old man from Monroe City, Missouri, was driving a 1999 Honda ATV northbound when he drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Sweet was not using any safety equipment at the time of the accident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Sweet sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Monroe City EMS Medic Joiner at 8:02 p.m. Sweet’s body was taken to Beinhoff Funeral Home in Perry, Missouri.

The incident was attended by Trooper Geren, Corporal Tappendorf, Trooper Johnson, the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe City Ambulance, and the Center Fire Department.

The ATV sustained moderate damage and was towed by Robert’s Garage.
