The Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra will have a winter concert on December 11, 2021, with “Joy to the World” to be performed in the Trenton High School Performing Arts Center at 3 pm.  Doors will open at 2:30.

Choir Conductor Linda Arnold:

Orchestra Director Buddy Hannaford acknowledges that most of the songs are holiday-themed.

Arnold says the Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra will not have their usual two combined numbers due to the inability to guarantee proper social distancing on stage.

Hannaford mentions mask-wearing is encouraged by the school.

December 11th’s performance at the THS Performing Arts Center will be free due to a donors club and anonymous donors who contribute at concerts; however, donations will be accepted. Hannaford notes that the choir and orchestra are a 501(c)(3) entity, and they rely on donations.

He says the groups look to help others at each December concert, and this year the Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra Board selected the Salvation Army Christmas Children’s Fund for receiving the concert’s special contributions.

Thirty choir members and 20 orchestra members are expected to perform at the winter concert on December 11th.   Choir Member Carol Wilford will sing soprano at the concert.

Orchestra Director Buddy Hannaford talks more about the person from Quincy, Illinois.

Choir Conductor Linda Arnold says there had been eight two-hour rehearsals as of the evening of December 7th. Rehearsals have been held in the First Baptist Church, with the choir and orchestra rehearsing in different locations in the church to maintain social distancing.

Hannaford says instruments needed for the Grand River Valley Orchestra are covered.

Linda Arnold says all the vocal parts for the choir are also covered. She believes there is a good balance on the parts.

The Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra’s concert at the THS Performing Arts Center on December 11th is free, but donations will be accepted to support the 501(c)(3). The Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra Board also selected the Salvation Army Christmas Children’s Fund to receive the concert’s special contributions.

More information on the groups can be found on the Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra’s website and Facebook page.
