A bicyclist was injured at Polo Wednesday when, according to the Highway Patrol, he was struck by a car after he allegedly failed to halt for a stop sign or yield the right of way.

The patrol reports 12-year-old Ryan Bell of Polo was transported by ambulance to the Liberty Hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of a car was 18-year-old Megan Latimer of Polo who wasn’t hurt.

An investigator reports the car was eastbound on School Street and the bicyclist was southbound on Stoutmore Street when the rear tire of the bike was struck by the oncoming car. The impact threw Bell off the bicycle coming to rest in the ditch off the southeast corner of the intersection late Wednesday afternoon.

The Highway Patrol was assisted by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department.
