An extra-inning single by Highland Community College first baseman Ryan Griesinger cost the North Central Missouri College Pirates a chance to grab their first win of the baseball season, as the Scotties beat the Pirates 2-1 in Highland, Kansas on Tuesday.

Highlights in the game for NCMC was a third inning run by Brendley Martina that gave the Pirates an early 1-0.  Martina had a 2 for 4 game, with third and fifth inning singles.  Kylan Easley pitched superbly for the Pirates, firing six innings of shutout baseball, striking out four, and allowing three walks and three hits.

Matt Philabaun took the loss for North Central, going 2/3 of an inning (in the bottom of the 10th), walking two and allowing the game-winning run.

NCMC was scheduled to host Graceland University’s JV in the Pirates home opener on Thursday at Burleigh Grimes Field, but, at the request of Graceland, those games were cancelled.  The Pirates new date for their home opener will be Saturday, March 12th, hosting McHenry Community College, at 12 noon and 2:30, in a pair of seven inning game.  The North Central baseball team is now 0-12 on the season.
