Wrongful death suit filed in fatal Interstate 70 crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Two children of a Columbia man killed in a head-on Interstate 70 collision have sued.

The Columbia Daily Tribune (http://bit.ly/2gCIq5E ) reports that the children of James Carter II are seeking unspecified damages from the estate of Vanessa Beatty.

Columbia police say Beatty was driving the wrong way last month when she crashed into Carter’s car in central Missouri. Both Carter, 42, and Beatty, 28, died.

The suit alleges wrongful death and negligence. It says Beatty was driving “in an intoxicated condition,” was speeding and not pay attention to the road.

Police say toxicology results aren’t back yet and that it will be another three to four weeks before tests results are available. At the time of the crash, police said it was unclear whether alcohol and drugs were a factor.
