PAYSON, UT (KSTU/CNN) – A woman got a little more than she bargained for during a shopping trip to Walmart Sunday morning.
The woman was shopping with her husband and family when she told a manager that she wasn’t feeling well.
She went to the register to pay for her items, but the manager called 911 and told the woman not to worry about paying. They could tell she was in labor.
She insisted on paying before she had the baby.
Walmart employees and customers helped, grabbed towels and held up sheets, all to help the woman deliver a baby boy.
Store manager Dustin Haight said that everything moved along pretty quickly.
“By the time the EMTs got here, she had paid for her merchandise and had a baby,” Haight said.
One of those EMTs said that in his 20 years of being in the field he’s never seen anything like it.
He’s been to homes where babies have been delivered, but never to such a public place.
He said everyone there did a great job.
Mom and baby were taken to the hospital in good condition.
“We’re going to buy her a whole bunch of goods, like diapers and formula and this time we won’t make her pay,” Haight said.
Walmart has been in contact with the mother and they`re happy to report that mom and baby are doing well and they are planning to come and visit soon.
