Video: Child thrown off railroad bridge

GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, WA (KCPQ/CNN) – The cell phone video is hard is watch – a 4-year-old boy flung off a bridge by an unidentified man into the river below where witnesses say his mother is watching.

“Once he hit the water and he came up, he was just screaming, and then the mom comforted him as he swam back,” Kaylub Fawley said.

Fawley shot the video, causing outrage on social media. His friend, Brianna Jones, says she called 911. She said her heart sank when she saw the child hit the water.

“I was scared because at first,” she said. “I thought he was going to smack his head on that lower beam, and then second I thought he broke his neck because he hit his neck right here, and he had a life jacket on so he got sucked up really fast.”

“When he came up, he was actually screaming and crying,” Jones said. “It broke my heart hearing that.”

The sheriff’s office and Child Protective Services are investigating the incident, and while the little boy survived the fall, deputies cited the mother for reckless endangerment. They also cited the man who threw the child off the bridge with reckless endangerment and criminal trespassing, all misdemeanors.

Fawley and Jones said they hope all the attention to the video – with nearly 400,000 views on Facebook – results in some sort of justice for the child.
