A couple from Machesney Park, Illinois was injured last night in an accident four miles north of Unionville.

The highway patrol reports the sports utility vehicle they occupied apparently crossed the center of a road and struck a unit being towed by a pickup.

The report listed injuries as serious for the driver of the SUV, 68-year-old Robert Burton. He was flown by medical helicopter (Air Evac) to the University Medical Center. His wife, 66-year-old Linda Burton received minor injuries and according to the patrol, was to seek her own treatment.

The driver of the pickup with a towed unit was 29-year-old Wendell Kurtz of Unionville who wasn’t hurt.

The accident on Wildflower Drive at 7:45 pm left the pickup with minor damage and the Illinois SUV was demolished. The patrol report noted the Illinois couple was using seat belts while the pickup driver was not.
