Unionville man injured in crash on Highway 5; accused of DWI

The highway patrol reports a Unionville man was hurt when the southbound car he was driving hit the rear of sports utility vehicle.

The SUV was stopped for traffic on Highway 5 in northern Putnam County.

62-year old John Staggs of Unionville was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa with moderate injuries while the operator of the SUV, 70-year old Linda Boland of Unionville, was not reported hurt.

The patrol reports Staggs was accused of driving while intoxicated, first offense, careless and imprudent driving, and failure to register a motor vehicle.

Staggs was wearing a seatbelt however, Boland was not using a safety device.

Both vehicles were demolished in the accident.
