Trenton R-9 school board members yesterday heard an update on the artificial turf project proposed for C.F. Russell Stadium.

Superintendent Dan Wiebers stated a committee met with an ATG sports representative who provided a projected cost estimate (end zone to end zone) in a range of $638,000 to $688,000.

Wiebers said the Foundation Trust of THS has received pledges of more than $369,000 toward the project. Wiebers said the goal is to not use R-9 school district funds for installation of the turf field so more efforts are being made to collect the funds necessary for the project. If enough funds are available by next spring, Wiebers noted a summer project is possible before the start of football season. Donations for the turf project are accepted by the Foundation Trust for Trenton High School at Post Office Box 185 in Trenton.

The next election is April 4th. Board of education candidate filing period opens December 13th and closes January 17th. Three terms expire next April. Positions are held by R-9 board members Kevin Bailey, Doug Franklin, and Brandon Gibler.

In a review of plans during inclement winter weather, the board approved hard surface bus routes. A draft of the 2015-16 school audit was presented by Conrad and Higgins.

Upon a request from 3rd and 4th-grade teachers, additional speakers have been installed for announcements at Rissler school. It’s noted emergency information can be now heard by students and staff in the hallways plus the school classrooms.

In another report, 70 students are in the gifted / enrichment program of the district.
