During a meeting of the Trenton Building and Nuisance Board last evening, members voted to advance property at 1913 Lulu Street from declaration of a nuisance to the next phase – the scheduling of a public hearing. The owner of the property is listed as John Hansen.

After a presentation from building inspector Donnie Vandevender, the board voted to declare three addresses as a nuisance: 607 West Crowder Road owned by John Danks; 2408 Chicago owned by Lester and Lora Browning; and 2510 Main Street, owned by Kevin Sizemore and Lori Prescott.

Diane Shuler was present when the building board commended her for cleaning up and making improvements at 1310 East 8th Street. Vandevender stated he sent a letter advising that the nuisance has been abated.

With a new fiscal year beginning May 1 for the city of Trenton, and $20,000 budgeted by the council, Vandevender is asking the board to consider housing demolitions for the 2017-2018 project list.

It’s likely to include those that missed out in the current funding cycle due to lack of enough funds. Among them are 507 Main, 702 East 5th Street, 915 Kumler; and 427 West 13th Street. Each has been labeled as a dangerous building.

Collectively these four received estimates last year to demolish and abate amounting to over $21,000 –all at city expense. Each would be subject to re-bidding the projects.

Police Chief Tommy Wright reported year to date, officers have investigated 38 nuisance complaints with nine referred to the court system.
