Trenton’s Building and Nuisance Board members continue to review properties of concern – advancing several to the next phases in an effort to have each comply with city building codes.

During a meeting Monday evening, two new locations were identified by Building Inspector Donnie Vandevender. These are 1323 Tindall and 2110 Mable with the board voting to declare both locations as a nuisance.

Eight locations that already were declared a nuisance were advanced to the public hearing stage for next months’ meeting. Still eight other addresses, that were subject to public hearings last night, advance to the category of “findings of fact.” One of those listed for a public hearing – 409 East 19th Street – was tabled for six months when a citizen made an appeal for more time to complete requested work.

Vandevender reported the demolition contractor, Red Rock, has come to Trenton to begin tearing down certain structures. The city of Trenton has a list of ten locations for demolition – using funds provided in the city budgets for last year and this year.

It will be May of 2018 when the city expects to budget money for the next round of demolition projects at Trenton.

Assistant Police Chief Rex Ross reported police have handled 160 nuisance violations since the first of the year. Ross noted 86 have been abated, 40 are described as in progress, and 34 have gone to court in the first six months of the year.
