Six schools will again participate in the Backpack Buddies supplemental food program through the community food pantry of Grundy County.

Distribution of the backpacks and food items is scheduled at the schools beginning after Labor Day. Participating schools are Rissler elementary, Trenton Middle school, Pleasant View R-6, Grundy R-5 at Humphreys, Laredo, and Spickard.

Donations to benefit backpack buddies may be given to Ginny Wikoff or to the community food pantry at 1703 Harris Avenue in Trenton. The goal is to raise $21,000 to accommodate 140 eligible school children during the school year.

A benefit softball tournament is Saturday at the ball fields of the Ebbe Sports Complex in Trenton, starting at 9 o’clock. Eight teams are scheduled to play in the games.

North Missouri Emergency Services coordinates the tournament that features a championship game. The concession stand will be open.
