Chief Tommy Wright of the Trenton Police Department has awarded the July 2016, Service Integrity Leadership Award to Sgt. Larry Smith.

Sergeant Smith is recognized by his peer, Supervisor Carolyn Hoffman, for his hard work and dedication to the community of Trenton, the Trenton Police Department, his peers, and his subordinates.

Sergeant Smith was nominated for the development of training programs for members of the Trenton Police Department, as well as his crime prevention programs and active shooter training that he provides to area schools. His work in providing community crime prevention education classes as well as his outreach to local children through stranger danger classes demonstrates his dedication to making Trenton a safer place to live and raise a family.

The Service Integrity Leadership Award is a peer-nominated award in which the recipient receives a “traveling trophy”, a Chief’s Letter of Commendation, and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. S.I.L. is an acronym for Service, Integrity and Leadership, which is part of the Trenton Police Department’s creed and mission. Wright states that next month, Sgt. Smith will make a nomination for the award based on his observations of one of his peers who have gone above or beyond in one of those areas.

That peer will then receive the same accolades as Smith did in July and will be responsible for the nomination for the next month.

Chief Wright encourages anyone who observes a Trenton Police Officer who goes above the call of duty to contact him so that the officer can receive recognition for their service.

Anyone having questions concerning the award is encouraged to contact the Trenton Police Department by calling 660-359-5557 or by emailing Chief Wright at [email protected].
