A 79-year-old Platte City woman died in a wrong-way crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 29 near Platte City.

The crash occurred about 12:30 p.m. when a 2007 Chevrolet driven by Delma J. George was northbound in the southbound lanes, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol. The Chevrolet struck another vehicle and then was hit by two other vehicles.

George was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after the first accident, a second wreck occurred as two vehicles stopped for that accident were hit by a 2013 Chrysler. Of three people injured in that wreck, two were described by the patrol as seriously hurt: a 63-year-old woman and a 5-year-old girl, both from St. Joseph. They were taken to a hospital.
