Voters within the city of Trenton approved a sales tax increase while voters of Grundy County defeated an increase in the nursing home district tax levy.

Princeton school patrons approved a bond issue; North Mercer votes approved the elimination of the waiver on Proposition C sales tax rollback. Livingston county approves a sales tax. Voters in Gallatin approve a school levy issue and to continue a city sales tax. Sullivan County voters defeat a per acre, agriculture fee, for road rock.

With support from each of the four wards and absentees, the three-eighths of a percent Trenton sales tax was approved by 57 percent support. The raw vote was 437 in favor and 330 opposed. The proposed 15 cent increase in the nursing home levy for Grundy County received 44 and a half percent support. Overall there were 533 in favor and 664 against. The issue got majorities in three precincts: at Edinburg, Laredo, and first ward of Trenton Township. It lost in six others and absentees

Larry Porter wins re-election as second ward councilman defeating Shey Marrs 114 to 44. Re-elected without opposition were Travis Elbert and Jennifer Hottes Urich.

First ward councilman was determined by write-ins: Glen Briggs a declared candidate.

Voters approved continuing additional road and bridge levies in four townships: Harrison, Liberty, Lincoln, and Taylor. Voters at Galt, Spickard, and Brimson approved issues to forgo an election when the exact number of persons file for positions open.

Grundy county had 12 hundred voters yesterday – only a 19 percent turnout.

One of the higher voter turnouts yesterday was Mercer County with nearly 30 percent – due in large part to issues involving Princeton and North Mercer Schools.

Princeton voters give 75 percent support to borrow money to finance several school campus improvements. The “no tax increase” bond issue shows 370 in favor and 126 opposed. North Mercer patrons give 62 percent approval to an issue to eliminate the Prop C waiver. This passed 125 to 76. Winning a race for North Mercer’s board of education were Julie Graham, Peggy Johnson, and Justin Holt.

A one-half of a percent sales tax for Livingston County passed with nearly 64 percent approval. The vote count was 11-hundred 82 in favor and 661 against.

Winning seats on the Chillicothe R-2 board of education were Pat Jones, Jason Bone, and Lauren Horsman. For the Southwest R-1 of Ludlow school board, it’s Chasity Anderson, Charles Jones, and Tyler Anderson. Capturing the contest for Livingston county health center board of directors were Marilyn Brodmerkle, Doug Doughty, and Darlene Hughes. It was a 20 percent voter turnout yesterday for Livingston County.

Daviess county saw an 18 percent turnout among voters. Gallatin school district levy issue passed 285 to 174 – earning 62 percent support. Voters in Gallatin give 82 percent support to continue the half-cent transportation sales tax: 217 to 45. Carol Walker wins the contest for Gallatin east ward alderman. Winning a three-way race for Mayor of Jamesport was Ray Bontrager. Gary Alexander and Geoff Eads were elected to the council.

Winston and Pattonsburg approve forgoing future elections for city offices when candidate filings equal the positions open. Winston approved the continuation of a street tax. Lock Springs trustees will be LaTisha Perkins and Paul Fields.

Over a thousand votes were cast in Sullivan County. Voters defeated the proposed one dollar per acre agriculture tax by a count of 437 in favor and 638 against. That’s 41 percent support for the special road rock tax. Pollock, Green City, and Greencastle approve issues to forgo future elections when filed candidates equal the open positions.

In a five-person field for the Green City school board, those with the most votes are Keith Albrecht, Bridget Lee, and Thomas Christen.

Harrison County had a 26 percent voter turnout with 12 hundred ballots cast.

Selected to South Harrison of Bethany school board were Caleb Guernsey, Nick Fitzgerald, and Mike Spurling. Winning a race for Bethany Mayor was Todd Williams.

Lance Johns and Randy Mann were elected as Bethany aldermen. Chosen aldermen in Gilman City were Linda Robertson and Jeffrey Wilson.

Voters of Putnam County provide only 44 percent support and defeat a 50 cent per acre road rock tax on agriculture land. (345 yes and 444 no). A five cent levy hike for the Putnam County Library got 66 percent approval (521 yes and 270 no) Unionville defeats the issue to discontinue sales tax on out of state purchase of vehicles and boats.

Voters will allow the appointment of a tax collector at Unionville.

Among election results from Linn County: elected from five candidates to the Brookfield school board were Toni Fay, Jered Wallace, and Blake DeVoy.

Chosen from four candidates for the Brookfield City Council were Sarah Bowden Wessing and Paul Frey.

Brookfield voters gave 71 percent approval to continuing the half-cent transportation sales tax. Voters in Laclede vote to allow the tax collector to be appointed. Marceline has defeated a measure to discontinue the local sales tax on out of state purchases of vehicles, trailers, and boats. Winning a race for alderman in Marceline was Elizabeth Cupp.

The voters of Caldwell County give 75 percent approval to continue the capital improvement sales tax of one-half of one percent to purchase gravel for the roads.
