North Missouri deer hunters in 9 county region do well in opening firearms weekend

Preliminary data from Missouri Department of Conservation shows deer hunters in Missouri harvested 96,131 deer during the opening weekend of the November portion of the fall firearms deer season.

Among the Green Hills, the top county for deer kills was Harrison with just over one thousand. (1,009) Linn and Sullivan counties are close behind at 992 and 984 respectively with Daviess at 876. Then in order are Putnam at 739, Mercer 710, Grundy 606, Livingston 595, and Caldwell county 492 deer taken by firearms. That’s a cumulative total of seven thousand and three deer for the nine area counties.

3300 of the deer was taken within the MDC chronic wasting disease zone that includes from the Green Hills, the counties of Livingston, Linn, Sullivan, and Putnam.

Novembers’ portion of fall firearms deer seasons continues through the 22nd with archery deer season opening again November 23rd through January 15, 2017. There is another youth portion of the firearms deer season November 25th through 27th. The antlerless portion of firearms deer season runs December 2nd through 4th. And the alternative methods portion runs December 24th through January 3rd, 2017.
