Norborne Lady Pirates upset Southwest Livingston in OT thriller

The CLAA rivals Norborne Lady Pirates and Southwest Lady Wildcats had one more match-up to their outstanding basketball seasons, with Saturday’s game from Norborne High School deciding the champion of Class 1, District 13.

The result, a 42-40 win for Norborne, sends the Lady Pirates into the Class 1 sectional round, and a meeting with the Winston Lady Redbirds, while Southwest Livingston’s dream of a second consecutive trip to the “Show-Me Showdown” in Columbia comes up three wins shy of fruition.

Norborne, 22-3 on the season, will take on Winston on Tuesday night at 6 o’clock at Liberty North High School.  The Lady Redbirds won an all-HDC Conference final in District 14, downing Pattonsburg in Friday night’s title game from DeKalb, 54-40.

In Class 1, District 15, the Jefferson Lady Eagles defeated North Harrison on Friday night at Stanberry High School, 62-45, while in District 16, on Saturday at Rock Port High School, the #2 ranked Mound City Lady Panthers defeated North Andrew 42-38.  Mound City and Jefferson will play in the Class 1 sectionals on Tuesday night at 6 o’clock inside the St. Joseph Civic Arena.

The two winners from Tuesday night’s action will advance to meet one another in the Class 1 quarterfinals, Saturday at 1 o’clock, at Bishop LeBlond High School in St. Joseph.  That winner advances to the 2016 “Show-Me Showdown” at the University of Missouri from March 10th through the 12th.
