The North Central Missouri College Pirates grabbed a pair of victories on the diamond at Burleigh Grimes Field on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the visiting Red Dragons of Wentworth Military Academy.
In Game #1, the Pirates beat the Dragons 9-1 in seven innings. ¬†North Central scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Stephan Vidal cracking a two-run double and scoring on a passed ball. ¬†Vidal had two RBI’s and three hits for the Pirates.
NCMC starter Maverich Lourens got the win, twirling five innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out seven.
A Jared Corbett two-run single got the Pirates offense off and running in the bottom of the 1st inning. ¬†NCMC scored once in the 2nd, and added two tallies in the 5th, with a single by Jordan Quarton igniting the rally, scoring Corbett.
With momentum on their side, the Pirates scored 12 runs over the first 3 innings of Game #2, rolling to a 16-6 victory over Wentworth. ¬†In the 1st inning, Landon Figg had an RBI double with Vidal striking a two-run homer. ¬†The second inning saw an RBI triple by Cameron Dean, an RBI single by Derek Hussey, a Figg RBI single, and an RBI double by Rubiangelo Mingeli. ¬†
Figg had two hits and two RBI’s for North Central, while Branden Garza got the win in relief, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing three runs.
Other offensive highlights for NCMC included a two run homer by Brendley Martina, an RBI single by Cortlen Austin, a two-run double by Corbett, and a sacrifice fly from Dennis Pogue.
NCMC has four games coming up on Thursday and Friday against the Maple Woods Community College Monarchs. ¬†Thursday’s doubleheader will be played on Maple Woods campus in North Kansas City, with the Monarchs returning the favor for a doubleheader at Burleigh Grimes Field on Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock. ¬†In both doubleheaders, the first game will go seven innings, with the night-cap slated for nine frames.
