Crowder College held off a pair of Thursday afternoon challenges from North Central Missouri College to claim a doubleheader sweep on the baseball diamond.

Crowder won the first game 3-1, with Anferney Hoeve’s pitching providing the bright spot for the Pirates.  Hoeve struck out six and allowed two earned runs on four hits and four walks over six innings, taking the tough-luck loss.  Crowder took a 1-0 lead on a 2nd inning sacrifice fly, doubling the advantage to 2-0 with a tally in the fourth.

Crowder College matched its one-run third inning with one more in the third. Both teams scored a single run in the 4th inning to complete the scoring, with CC scoring the final run of the game on an error.

Game 2 was a much differently played contest, but with another two-run victory for the home team, as the ‘Riders beat the Pirates, 9-7.  North Central Missouri College lost the ballgame after losing the lead in the eighth inning.

Rubiangelo Mingeli racked up two RBIs on two hits for the NCMC Pirates. He singled in the seventh and eighth innings.  Kylan Easley couldn’t get it done on the mound for the NCMC Pirates, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

The Pirates jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After Derek Hussey singled, Smith Kemper singled, scoring Hussey.  Later on, NCMC tied the game in the seventh on a passed ball that scored Stephan Vidal and Kemper.

Crowder College went up for good in the eighth, scoring four runs on a fielder’s choice and a three-run triple.
