National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service to honor area man

The 36th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will honor an area firefighter who died in the line of duty.

Firefighter Edward Cosgrove, Junior of the Green Township Fire Protection District in the Utica area will be remembered at the official national service at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland October 8th.

Cosgrove, who was 53, died July 24th, 2016 after he collapsed while fighting a house fire.

His name, as well as the names of 74 other firefighters who died in 2016 and 20firefighters who died in previous years, will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the Academy grounds.

Families of the fallen firefighters will receive flags flown over the United States Capitol and the National Memorial. Members of fire service, honor guard units, and pipe and drum units from across the country will participate in the national tribute.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security’s U. S. Fire Administration sponsor the tribute.
