LONE TREE, CO (KDVR/CNN) – Police confirmed that mother Jennifer Laber and sons Ethan and Adam Laber were found dead Wednesday.

They were reported missing, last seen leaving the boys’ school about 2 p.m. Tuesday, an hour before normal dismissal time. She was reported missing at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The search led police to a closed Sports Authority, thanks to a tip from a passerby.

“He found a missing van with a woman and two kids in it,” Douglas County Chief Deputy Steve Johnson said. “He said it’s by the loading dock. The female is slumped over in the driver’s seat. We have found three deceased people inside the van.”

Police confirmed it’s the 36-year-old missing mom and her two boys, ages 3 and 5, but won’t say how the three died.

“We do not believe there is any threat to the community,” Johnson said.

Dispatch recordings do say, however, “I got three wounded – apparent gunshot wounds.”

Police notified the husband and father, Ryan Laber, of the horrific discovery at his home.

Investigators say they’re working hard to find out why and how this happened, “piece this together to give the father answers he so desperately is going to need as he faces this real hollow time in his life.”

Investigators say they couldn’t have imagined the future of children so happy and so innocent could end so suddenly, and a family could be torn apart so violently.

“At the time we were notified, there was no indication it would come to this horrific ending,” Johnson said. “There were no red flags. There were no indications an Amber Alert was needed.”
