The Highway Patrol arrested a Milan man for child abuse as well as domestic assault.
Online court information reports 27-year-old Shane Stephenson was charged with the felonies of child abuse or neglect – serious or physical injury with no sexual contact as well as first-degree domestic assault – serious physical injury in Sullivan County.
His bond is $100,000, and his arraignment is scheduled for October 19th in Sullivan County Associate Circuit Court.
According to the probable cause statement, the Missouri Highway Patrol was told that a 2-year-old child had been thrown by Stephenson twice on Saturday night. The first time caused the child’s head to strike the floor, and a second time causing the child’s head to hit a wall. The child was reportedly unresponsive after that.
The child was flown from Sullivan County Memorial Hospital to Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, then to the University of Missouri Hospital for further treatment.
