Mercer, Linn County to meet for third time in tournament final

In a 25-0 start to the season that has earned the team a #1 ranking and HDC regular season and tournament titles, the Mercer Lady Cardinals have two tournament championship game victories over the Linn County Lady Mustangs, first in the Milan Tournament, and then two weeks later at Meadville.  On Friday night at 6 o'clock, at Green City High School, the Lady Mustangs get another shot at knocking off Mercer.

In Tuesday night's Class 1, District 12 semifinals, the Mercer girls downed Bucklin-Macon County, 57-35, with Lindsay Wyatt leading the Lady Cardinals with 26 points.  Nicole Kost added 18, and Bailey Owens 11.  Savannah Jochem had 12 points to lead BMC.

Linn County locked horns with Grundy R-5 in semifinal #2, with the Lady Mustangs emerging with a 61-54 victory.  Megan Schreiner led Linn County with 26 points, while Alexis Miller had 16.  For the Lady Panthers, Matana Munday had 15 points, Abby Wells 13, Roni Busick 10, while Emily Milazzo and Zoe Littleton had eight points each.

Linn County plays Mercer for the girl's title at Green City on Friday night at 6 o'clock on KTTN FM 92.3.  The winner advances to the Class 1 state sectionals on Tuesday night at Kirksville, to play the District 11 winner.

The Glasgow Yellowjackets are into the championship games of Class 1, District 10, hosted by Tina-Avalon.  In Tuesday night's semifinals, the 'Jackets cruised to victories, with the Glasgow girls winning 69-37, and the boys triumphing 65-33.  The Northwestern girls and Brunswick boys were on the short end of the scoreboard, ending their seasons in the district semifinal round.
